If you haven’t heard of Shafik Sachedina, he is an entrepreneur and a dental surgeon, and also, a member of the Institute of Ismaili Studies. Additionally, he is a London University alumnus who graduated with a dental license in 1975. However, after completing his education, he soon recognized that his professional aspirations extended well beyond dentistry.
As a matter of fact, these same aspirations are what compelled Shafik Sachedina to launch Sussex Health Care, a leading provider of residential and nursing care in the Sussex area.
Founded in 1985, Sussex Health Care is an ISO certified company, meaning they are committed to providing the highest standard of care possible to their patients. Although Sachedina chose to focus more of his attention on Sussex Health Care, as opposed to dentistry, the business decision is not one that detracts from his chief objective, which is to positively impact the lives of as many people as possible.
Now that we have taken a look at Sachedina’s professional life; let’s examine the role he plays within his community. Currently, Sachedina is a member of the Institute of Ismaili Studies, an organization that focuses on matters involving the Muslim community. For example, the organization is committed to eradicating many of the misconceptions commonly associated with the religion of Islam. Also, it is important to note that the institute is subdivided into various chapters including the Aga Khan Development Network, of which, Shafik Sachedina is a member.
In his role as a committee member for the Aga Khan Development Network, Sachedina is responsible for organizing a variety of activities and program relative to the network’s role within the Muslim community. Additionally, he is the head delegate for all foreign affair matters. In 2017, while fulfilling this very role, Sachedina journeyed to Russia to meet with the country’s leaders to address concerns stemming from the Middle East crisis.
For those who are familiar with Shafik Sachedina, the Institute of Ismaili Studies, and the Aga Khan Development Network, this pilgrimage is in no way surprising. The Aga Khan Development Network, as well as the Institute of Ismaili Studies and Shafik Sachedina, have all worked diligently to help promote cultural understanding and acceptance of all people, religions, and walks of life.
